EG Parents for In-Person Learning is already having an impact!
EGPFIPL is very excited to see the latest installment of Superintendent Meyer’s Field Memo. In this recent edition, she provides hope for our middle and high school students by sharing some metrics that are being considered to return our students to 5-day in person learning. This is fantastic news and starts the conversation we have been asking for! She has even put a target return date out so students, parents, teachers, and the community can begin the preparation process. Thank you, Mrs. Meyer!
It is with cautious optimism that parents supporting this return should participate in the April 6th School Committee meeting. As the plan is dependent upon RIDOH recommendation changes AND School Committee approval, we must continue to advocate for our students. Before and during that meeting, you should communicate your desire for the School Committee members to vote in support of the effort being made by the Administration to return to 5 day in-person learning on April 26th. If necessary, we may have to support the district in petitioning RIDOH if there are delays in the anticipated updated guidelines.
Thank you, Mrs. Meyer, for listening to the need of students and input of parents. Don’t miss the April 6th meeting…this is not yet certain.

EGPFIPL wants concerned parents to know that our guiding coalition has attempted to start a dialogue with the SC and EGSD Administration by sharing the attached letter on 3/3/21 in an attempt to expedite collaborative discussion that focuses on students and getting them additional in-person instruction. When we submitted this letter, the only response we originally received was from Chair Musella requesting a copy of the petition and its signatures. We promptly replied. A few days later, Mrs. Meyer acknowledged receipt. Through email dialogue with a SC member, we were encouraged to submit 3-4 meeting times for a discussion, and once again we promptly did so. The response from Chair Musella was to demand that we identify who would participate in the meeting. Again, we promptly replied with the discussion participants. Since that time, we must unfortunately report that 2 of the suggested meeting times have passed without communication from the SC or the Administration. It is our hope that they will soon inform us that they plan to accept our request to meet, rather than ignore the voice of hundreds of parents and miss the opportunity to go into next Tuesday’s SC meeting with a greater understanding of the concerns of people who support EGPFIPL. Stay tuned for additional information regarding progress to open lines of communication between concerned parents and the SC.
High School students with 504 or RtI Plans have been invited back to school for 4 days a week in-person learning (5 days starting 3/22/21)
EGSD has expanded instruction to Mondays, increasing the number of instructional minutes provided to our students closer to the mandated 330 instructional minutes per day.
We have created a website and FB page to provide the East Greenwich community with accurate and up to date information including links to original documents so that everyone can make informed decisions for themselves.
We have submitted our petition to the School Committee and district administration and are awaiting their response.
We created a Change.org petition which has received over 500 signatures.
